The thought of putting oil on my skin used to totally freak me out. What if I break out with a face full of pimples!!!! Isn’t the idea to reduce the oil on my face not to add more?????

For most of us, our first introduction to oil was negative. Growing up we were told to dry out our skin and reduce the amount of oil our skin produced. “Oil  free” and “reduces oil” were very common terms thrown about in the skincare industry.

Since then research and knowledge about skincare has come a long way and we have learnt to value the benefits that using oils can have on your skin.

We now know that oils have quite the opposite effect and don’t cause breakouts. If we over cleanse and scrub our skin to dry it out and reduced oil build up, it actually has the opposite effect and the skin produces excess sebum to make up for the moisture loss If we use the correct oils to nourish and hydrate our skin our bodies produce less oil and this creates balanced healthy happy skin. So in actual fact your skin needs oil.

At Cleanse Skincare we are always getting questions around our oils so we decided to put the following chart together to help you select the most appropriate oil for you;

The cooler months can be a great time to start using oils as both the indoor and outdoor conditions can often leave your skin feeling dry and irritated.

Here are a couple of points to remember;

  1. Wash your hands first. You don’t want to add extra germs and dirt to your face.
  2. It is best to apply oil straight after cleaning as the skin absorbs it better.
  3. Our oils should be absorbed into your skin within 30 - 60 seconds. If after this time you are still feeling oily then you have probably used too much. Try using less or alternatively you might need to swap to a lighter oil.
  4. You can use oils in the morning or at night, but if you find them a bit oily, try using them at night to start with. This is also beneficial because our skin does most of it rejuvenating and repairing overnight so it makes sense to put your best highly concentrated products on before bed.

We always love answering your skincare questions so please feel free to email us. xx
